Long Range Precision Rifle 2

Course description:

Continuing to build on the foundation created by long range precision 1, this course will challenge you with a faster pace, introduce you to more advanced external ballistics, and help you solve more complex problems in the world of precision shooting.  Being that an advanced skill is simply a mastery of the basics, you’ll be picking up the pace and pushed outside your comfort zone while still adhering to the fundamentals.  During long range precision 2 you’ll be exposed to more unconventional shooting positions, drills with tighter time limits and smaller targets, firing at declines, and field shooting scenarios.  The goal of this course is to create an independent and confident shooter who is proficient in both marksmanship, and equipment management.

Pre Requisites:

For long range precision 2, we’d like you to have completed at least one of the following courses from us: long range precision 1, or the designated marksman course.  If you’ve completed a comparable course from another training company please let us know which one, and we can identify eligibility on a case-by-case basis.  The reason we ask this is because at an advanced level course we like to keep the student skill level fairly even across the board, which allows us to progress through the training schedule with relative ease.

What you'll learn:

  • Advanced rifle and optic manipulation.
  • Advanced external ballistics.
  • Compensating for inclines and declines.
  • Multiple target engagements.
  • Unconventional and field shooting positions.
  • Laser rangefinders and other ancillary equipment.

The gear

Having already completed long range precision 1, or another comparable training program, you’ve probably got a solid idea of what works and what doesn’t work for you.  At long range precision 2 you’ll be getting even more familiar with your equipment as you use it to help you solve the problems you’re presented with at the course.  With that being said, most of all the required gear items will remain the same. The larger ticket items will still be available for you to use on loan from the instructor staff, but at this point in the game, you’ll most likely have your own gear.

Must haves

  • A rifle that is capable of at least printing a 1 Minute of Angle (1 inch) group at 100 meters/yards.
  • 400 Rounds of Match Ammunition  (See the ammunition and reloading policy page for details.)
  • A magnified optic that has exposed target style turrets, a rangefinding reticle, and is mounted to the rifle with quality equipment.
    • Instructions on the optics’ reticle and mechanics are beneficial, as well as the proper tools associated with adjusting your optic.
  • Bipod (Preferably with the ability to adjust and lock the left/right cant of the rifle.)
  • Rear shooting support, also known as a "rear bag".
  • A rifle sling with the ability to mount the sling to the rifle.
  • Backpack, or bag to carry your range equipment.
  • Note taking material, to include fine-point colored Sharpie permanent markers.
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather.  We will shoot in any and all weather conditions.
  • Hydrating device along with plenty of water.
  • Lunch for all training days.

Nice-to-have, but not necessary

  • Spotting Scope.
  • Tripod with adjustable head.
  • Shooting mat.
  • Ballistic computer.  (We recommend Applied Ballistics Mobile)
  • Kestrel Wind Meter.
  • Laser range finder.
  • Spare magazines. (If your rifle is capable.)
  • Anti-cant device mounted to your rifle, or rifle scope.
  • Angle or Cosine indicator mounted to your rifle, or rifle scope.

Additional notes on the course:

Long range precision 2 will require you to be slightly more active and mobile than precision rifle 1.  There will be a field shooting portion of the course where you’ll be required to move yourself and all your shooting gear around the range for the day, so please plan accordingly.
